FKF suspends Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi for 90 days

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended national team and Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi for 90 days, following the emergence of videos implicating him in potential match-fixing activities.
The viral clips suggest discussions related to influencing match outcomes and feature a conversation involving a person referred to as “Matasi” and an unidentified individual.
In a statement released on Thursday, March 27, 2025, the federation announced that Matasi will not participate in any FKF-sanctioned events or competitions during the suspension period as investigations into the matter commence.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation,” the federation stated.

FKF said the decision was made under Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016).
“The decision, made in accordance with Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016), has been formally communicated to Kakamega Homeboyz FC and the player,” the statement reads.
“The Federation remains committed to upholding integrity in football and ensuring a fair and transparent process for all involved parties,” the statement added.
Investigation
This suspension comes hours after FKF opened a formal investigation into the goalkeeper.
In an earlier statement, the federation mentioned that it has commenced a joint investigation with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities as part of its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of football in Kenya.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is aware of videos circulating online involving goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, raising concerns about possible match manipulation,” the statement read.
“FKF upholds the integrity of football and has launched an official investigation in collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities.”

FKF assured that the inquiry will be conducted under its Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations and FIFA’s global guidelines on integrity, promising a fair, transparent, and thorough process.
“The rights of the player and his club will be respected, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” the statement reads.
Additionally, the federation urged members of the public and stakeholders to come forward with credible information, pledging to handle all reports with strict confidentiality.
“We encourage anyone with credible information to assist in this investigation,” FKF stated.
