Seasoned political analyst Herman Manyora has dismissed claims by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is secretly working with President William Ruto, terming the accusations baseless.

Manyora argued that it would be impossible for Gachagua to conceal such an alliance, especially among his Mount Kenya supporters, given the extent of his political fallout with the president.

Without mincing his words, Manyora has termed these nonsensical, and according to him, the former deputy president can’t dare make such a move since it will be difficult for him, who has managed to endear himself to the Mt Kenya people as their kingpin, to try and work with today’s regime.

“That is nonsense – absolute nonsense. It’s not possible; it’s difficult because where Gachagua has reached in these matters, where will he hide? Where will he walk among his Mount Kenya people if they realise he is secretly working with the president? Where will he hide? It is impossible.” Kioni stated

The remarks come days after Kioni stated that Gachagua was working behind the scenes with Ruto while pretending to be in the opposition.

This followed Gachagua’s recent trip to the United States, where he accused the former Ndaragwa legislator of being an agent of the National Intelligence Service.

The exchange also comes at a time when tensions between the Jubilee Party and the United Opposition are intensifying. Kioni has repeatedly accused the coalition of sidelining Jubilee in negotiations.

He has also accused Gachagua of attempting to intimidate former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i by pushing him to abandon Jubilee and instead form a Kisii-based party to negotiate with the opposition.

Warning to the united opposition

Manyora warned that such internal wrangles could undermine the opposition and ultimately benefit President Ruto.

He urged Jubilee and the United Opposition to resolve their issues internally rather than allowing disputes to play out in public.

“These childish games they have begun engaging in are being watched from the statehouse, and Ruto is just enjoying it; I don’t think that Kenyans are happy with them; they should stop those games. if there are issues, they should do so behind the curtains.” Manyora added
