Ledama: Govt secretly plans to hand over Jamhuri Park to Chinese firm
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has claimed that there is a plot by the state to have Jamhuri Park leased to a private Chinese investor.
While addressing the Senate on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Ledama expressed his disappointment that a property meant to be owned by the public was being leased to a foreign investor.
He stressed that in the 21st century, in a country where citizens are informed and connected to the internet, it is still possible for secret deals to take place.
According to him, the issue of Jamhuri Park has been in the news for some time, and Kenyans are aware of a secret plan to lease the park to Chinese investors.

“In the 21st century, in a country where the citizens are woke, where we’ve got the internet, there’s still room for a sacred deal to be carried out. This issue of Jamhuri Park has been in the news for quite some time, and the citizens of this republic are aware that there is a sacred deal happening to lease Jamhuri Park to some Chinese,” Ledama stated.
Ledama described the situation as outrageous, noting that Jamhuri Park is government-owned land that was set aside by the country’s forefathers for recreational use. He called the move unprecedented and unacceptable.
He urged Garissa Senator Haji Mohammed to act swiftly and investigate the land lease deal, asserting that someone was trying to profit from the park.
Ledama also reminded those involved that material wealth is temporary, and future generations should be allowed to enjoy what previous generations preserved.
He condemned the encroachment of green spaces such as the Nairobi and Ngong forests, arguing that reckless development was contributing to pollution by destroying natural buffers that absorb toxins.
Plea to Senator Haji
Ledama insisted that the secretive leasing of public land must stop.
He urged Senator Haji to go beyond summoning the Cabinet Secretary and instead visit the Lands Office and the Survey of Kenya to verify records.
Ledama emphasised that Jamhuri Park has always been a public asset owned by the government of Kenya.

“And I wish that Senator Haji would be able to go to the land office, not just invite the Cabinet Secretary here. Go to the land office. Go to the surveyor of Kenya, and check the records,” he added
