First and second-year university students from North Mugirango constituency will not get funding from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursary kitty, area MP Joash Nyamoko has said.

Nyamoko said NG-CDF will only provide education bursaries to third and fourth-year students who are not being catered for by the High Education Loan Board (Helb) and the University Fund.

He said that giving the first and second-year students bursaries from the constituency bursary kitty could lead to duplication exercise and therefore lock out many needy students from benefiting from the kitty.

“I want to tell first and second-year university students not to waste their time filling bursary application forms, because their applications will not be honoured. They have already benefited from HELB and they should be kind enough to give other desperate and needy cases a chance,” Nyamoko told parents at Moorage secondary school in his constituency.

He also expressed his disappointment over the low enrolment rate at the institution, which currently has a population of 58 students in the whole school.

“I am told that majority of the students have dropped out school because of alcoholism, consumption of bhang in large scale and lack of school fees,” said Nyamoko.

The lawmaker asked police and the provincial administration to fish out all students who dropped out of school so that they can continue with their studies.

The legislator gave a Sh1 million donation to the institution to cater for school fees for all   students who had dropped out.

“I am now directing that all the students idling at home because lack of school fees to report back immediately because I have now paid their outstanding fees arrears   from the NG-CDF bursary kitty,” he stated.

Nyamira county commissioner Erastus Ombui who was in the company of the MP directed chiefs and their assistants to make sure that all school-going children report to their respective schools.

Ombui also asked parents to take education of their children seriously by making sure that they monitor their lifestyle and discipline instead of leaving the whole burden to the teachers.
