Three MPs from Nyamira County have petitioned the government to investigate the conduct of the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) officials in relation to the ongoing form four examinations in the county.

Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango), Patrick Osero (Borabu) and Jerusa Momanyi (Woman Rep) claimed that Knec officials assigned to the county were harassing candidates so that they could fail in their examinations.

The MPs cited Nyambaria High School which topped in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination saying it was being unfairly targeted by Knec officials.

According to the legislators, invigilators manning the exams at the school were stripping candidates purportedly to search for cheating materials.

“Why are Knec officials daily camping at Nyambaria High School intimidating and harassing the candidates?” he posed.

“We are demanding that the government conduct a public inquiry into the conduct of the Knec officials since the exams started. It is a taboo to strip our children naked because of the exams,” Osero added.

Momanyi said Nyamira leaders will not allow Knec officials to intimidate candidates.

“These Knec officials have psychologically tortured our children and their main agenda is to make sure they fail their examinations,” she said.

She added: “We are even told that the Knec officials carry with them foreign materials which they plant on the candidates so as to justly their claims of cheating.”
