KNEC raises alarm over fake Teacher Training College reopening and exam dates circulating online
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has warned the public against a viral notice circulating online that falsely claims to provide reopening dates and examination schedules for Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
The notice, which has been widely shared on social media, alleges that all TTCs will reopen on April 15, with second-year examinations scheduled to start in early May. It also claims that the assessments will be strictly paper-based, with preparatory rehearsals set for May 1.

KNEC dismissed the notice as fake and urged the public to exercise caution, warning against falling victim to what could be a potential fraud scheme.
“Beware of fake news. KAA CHONJO!” KNEC wrote on a post on the Facebook page on Monday, April 6, 2026.
Official communication
The council revealed that there was no official communication on the April reopening or the May examination dates as indicated in the viral notice.
KNEC-administered assessments for teacher trainees, particularly those enrolled in the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), are typically held towards the end of the year, around November or December.
The council also clarified that reopening dates for Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) are not issued by KNEC. Instead, such schedules are determined by institutional calendars and policy guidance from the Ministry of Education.

KNEC has urged students, tutors, and the public to rely solely on official communication channels, including verified institutional websites and direct circulars, to avoid confusion and misinformation.
KNEC recent applications
KNEC posted the invitation on its official X account.
“We invite qualified teachers and teacher educators to apply for training as examiners for KJSEA, KCSE examination, and Teacher Education assessments.”
The post also noted that slots are limited and applicants will be shortlisted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Shortlisted trainees receive directions to access online materials first, then attend residential sessions at designated venues. KNEC emphasises that the exercise remains strictly residential for the in-person parts.
Shortlisted candidates are required to pay a training fee of Ksh10,500. KNEC emphasises that payment is only made after selection and notification through SMS and the portal. No fees apply at the application stage.
