Kisii and Embu leaders call on State to tackle disappearance cases
Leaders from Embu County and Kisii are now calling on the government to undertake thorough investigations to unmask the forces behind the recent spate of abductions and enforced disappearances.
Their calls came a day before civil societies and human rights activists staged countrywide demonstrations to protest against the abductions.
The leaders from Embu challenged the government to arrest the individuals involved in the abductions and bring justice to the affected families.
Their calls came as the region reels from the mysterious abduction of Billy Mwangi (pictured), a young social media influencer who was forcibly taken two weeks ago in Embu town.
A section of youths and human rights activists have organized nationwide protests today to demand justice and accountability from the government over the alarming increase in citizen abductions.
The demonstrations will be taking place across all 47 counties as well as the diaspora, with an aim of exerting pressure on President William Ruto’s administration to address the abductions and hold those responsible accountable.
The organizers have accused the government of failing to act against the kidnappings, many of which target those citizens who criticise the regime. Activists claim that December alone has seen 13 reported abductions, with no arrests or investigations made public.
Another leader of the protests emphasized the nationwide scope of the demonstrations, stating, “It’s not only in Nairobi. We are calling for protests in all 47 counties and even the diaspora to stand in solidarity with our fellow comrades and demand an end to these abductions.”
“We call on all Kenyans to come out in large numbers today so that we can demand total change and political accountability,” urged another activist.
The Embu leaders led by the local Senator Alexander Mundigi, the leaders urged the government to take swift and decisive action, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the disturbing incidents.
A section of church leaders in Kisii county have appealed to the government to ensure youths abducted last week are freed and reunited with their families to reduce anxiety and foster peace.
