Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kitui residents to attend the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations in large numbers. The national event is scheduled to take place in Kitui County on October 20, 2025.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 1, during a meeting with grassroots leaders from the county, the Deputy President reminded locals of the rare honor of hosting the national holiday and urged them to show up in solidarity.

Kindiki posed.

He appealed to residents to embrace the event and use it as a chance to showcase the county’s hospitality and unity.

Mtakuja kwa wingi, mtachangamuka. Tunaomba mkuje kwa wingi na hio sherehe ifane. Ikifana, watu wa eneo hili tutakuwa na bragging rights. Mashujaa Day imetusaidia kwa sababu tumepata maendeleo ambayo yangelichukua muda mrefu kufika, lakini imeharakishwa,” he added.

The Deputy President noted that in preparation for the celebrations, Kitui has benefitted from accelerated development projects, including the completion of the long-awaited international stadium.

Mnajua ya kwamba the whole of Kitui hakukuwa na stadium. Lakini sasa kwa sababu ya hii sherehe tumepata stadium ya kimataifa. Mashujaa Day ndio imefanya stadium iishe, na imebaki mahali padogo tu,” Kindiki said.

Final preps ahead of Mashujaa

The government has been racing against time to finalise preparations ahead of the celebrations, which will bring together leaders and citizens from across the country.

Kitui County is racing to prepare for its first-ever Mashujaa Day on October 20, 2025, at the Ithookwe Stadium, a 10,000-seater built for Ksh700 million in just four months.

The stadium is 92% complete and set for handover on October 6, ready to host military parades, cultural performances, and the presidential speech. The rapid construction has created jobs and sparked local pride, with plans to upgrade it into an athletics hub, transforming Kitui into a sports and tourism destination.

Other upgrades

Beyond the stadium, infrastructure upgrades are in full swing. The Ithookwe Airstrip, revamped with Ksh150 million, is now all-weather, ensuring smooth VIP arrivals and future tourism growth.

The Kitui State Lodge has been renovated for dignitaries, while roads, water, sewer lines, and streetlights are being improved by KURA and KeRRA, with over KSh 2 billion invested.
