Kindiki holds meeting with 10 UDA aspirants for Ol Kalou seat
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, met 10 aspirants seeking the UDA Party ticket for the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, following the death of the area MP, David Kiaraho.
During the meeting, Kindiki, who also serves as the UDA Party deputy leader, urged the aspirants to consider reaching a consensus where possible in a bid to avoid unnecessary divisions within the party. At the same time, he assured all contenders that the party would conduct a free, fair, and verifiable nomination process.
“The deputy president and UDA Party Deputy Party Leader, H.E. Kithure Kindiki, today met 10 aspirants interested in securing the UDA Party ticket in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, following the passing of the late Hon. David Kiaraho,” Kindiki stated.
“The deputy president encouraged the aspirants to pursue consensus where possible, while assuring all those interested of a free, fair, and verifiable nominations process under the party.”

The deputy president emphasised that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has built its reputation on transparency and credible internal democratic processes, adding that the same standards will be upheld in the Ol Kalou by-election.
The meeting was also attended by UDA Party Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, Secretary General Hassan Omar, National Elections Board Chair Anthony Mwaura, and Deputy Executive Director and Director of ICT & Elections Brian Higgins Mbugua.
The Ol Kalou by-election is expected to attract significant political attention, with parties keen on securing the seat in what could shape local political dynamics ahead of future contests.
United opposition Ol-Kalou standoff

This comes amid times when there is a standoff in the united opposition camp where the DCP and Jubilee party are at loggerheads on who should field a candidate in the upcoming mini-poll.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, and signed by Secretary General Montalel Ole Kenta, the party argued that the seat rightfully belongs to them since the former Member of Parliament, David Kiaraho, who died, leaving it vacant, was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket.
The Jubilee Party has maintained that it ceded ground in last year’s by-elections in favour of other parties within the broader United Opposition, citing constituencies such as Mbeere North and other areas where it stepped aside to support joint candidates.
DCP-Jubilee Olo Kalou standoff

DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga has sharply criticised Jubilee’s push, insisting that his party is fully prepared for the mini-polls and will go head-to-head with Jubilee if necessary.
Obaga accused the Uhuru Kenyatta–led party of undermining previous by-elections, citing Narok North, where he claimed that despite the DCP candidate being a frontrunner, Jubilee still fielded its own candidate.
He further stated that the then Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni actively campaigned against DCP interests. He maintained that the party will not repeat what it considers past mistakes in Isiolo and Narok, insisting that DCP is not a junior partner in the alliance.
