Kindiki announces Kilifi infrastructure boost with Ksh25B roads projects
By Kiprono Keileb, March 19, 2026Kilifi County is set to undergo a major transformation as the government accelerates development projects to improve transport, economic opportunities, and livelihoods in the region.
In a statement posted on X on Thursday, March 19, 2026, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki outlined ongoing projects, pointing out a focus on roads, electricity, and the blue economy to empower local communities in the county.
“The Government is fast-tracking key development projects in Kilifi County to transform the economy of the area and to empower the people,” Kindiki stated.

The DP stated that there will be an additional 385 kilometres of tarmac roads at a cost of Ksh 25 billion, aimed at improving connectivity and easing movement for residents and businesses.
“Road construction projects to build an additional 385 kilometres of tarmac roads are underway for 25.5 billion shillings,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President also pointed out ongoing rural electrification projects, which aim to bring electricity to thousands of households across the county, stating that Ksh 2 billion will be channelled toward electrification to connect over 23,000 households. Kindiki further detailed support for the blue economy, which includes fisheries, boat provision, and market infrastructure to enhance livelihoods along the coast.
“2.1 billion shillings rural electrification projects are underway to connect 23,589 beneficiaries. To promote the blue economy sector, Ksh 983 million has been disbursed to support 267 business ideas through beach management units. Construction of two fish landing sites and a fish market is ongoing while 10 on shore small boats have been supplied to fisherfolk at a cost of 272 million shillings,” he added.
Kindiki further noted that search-and-rescue capabilities are being strengthened to ensure safety along the coast with rescue boats worth KSh 70 million supplied.

“One search and rescue boat worth KSh 70 million has been supplied, and procurement of 3 deep sea fishing boats is underway to cost Ksh 300 million,” Kindiki said.
Kindiki also explained that housing, market infrastructure and student accommodation would be expanded to support economic growth and community needs.
“The Affordable Housing, Fresh Produce Markets, Student Accommodation and Institutional Housing Programme is investing Ksh 22 billion in various projects that will transform the economy of Kilifi County. Held a public sensitisation event to explain ongoing and planned government projects and programmes for Kilifi County at Kakanjuni Trading Centre, Ganze Constituency,” Kindiki said.
