Khalwale asks govt to close down centres suspected of radicalism after Kamiti terror suspects saga
Former Kakamega Senator has urged the government to close down all centres suspected of radicalising the youths in the country and more so Nyanza and Western regions
According to Khalwale, the government should prioritise more on youth empowerment programs that can generate income for the hard-working youths in the country.
“The government must close down all centres suspected of radicalism of our youth and prioritize on youth empowerment programs,” Khalwale said.
Khalwale’s sentiments comes barely a day after the Kamiti prison fugitive terror convicts were arrested.
According to Khalwale, it is the said centres that have been taking advantage of Luhya and Luo boys in Nyanza and Western regions by capitalising on the rampant poverty in the region.
“The Kamiti terrorist fugitives included Luhya and Luo boys, apparently lured by scavengers who capitalize on the rampant poverty in Nyanza and Western regions.
Khalwale further urged the president to cleanse the whole police and prisons service.
With the resident’s help, Musharaf Abdalla Akhulunga alias Shukri, Mohamed Ali Abikar and Joseph Juma Adhiambo alias Yusuf were arrested by Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) in Kitui on Thursday, November 18.
They had escaped from Kamiti Maximum Prison on the night of November 14, 2021 and detectives believe that they were on their way to Somalia before they were nabbed inside a house in Kitui town.
Mohamed Ali Abikar was arrested following his involvement with the Garissa University attack in April 2015.
Joseph Juma Adhiambo, alias, Yusuf, was arrested in 2019 while attempting to enlist with the Al Shabaab terror group.
Musharaf Abdalla was serving a jail term since 2012 over his participation in a failed attempt to conduct a terrorist attack targeting parliament building.
