The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has issued a public notice warning contractors about a sophisticated scam involving fraudulent Letters of Award.

The Director General, Eng. J.K. Magondu, in a public notice on Monday, April 20, 2026, warned the public that conmen are actively issuing fake documents to exploit and defraud unsuspecting business owners.

According to the authority, these documents are specifically designed to mislead contractors into believing they have secured official government tenders.

“The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) wishes to notify contractors that Letters of Award are being issued by conmen seeking to exploit unsuspecting contractors. These fake documents are intended to mislead and defraud,” KeRRa stated.

Procedure for awards

KeRRA clarified its official procedures to help contractors distinguish between legitimate and fake communications. The authority said that all official Letters of Award are only issued directly at KeRRA offices.

Contractors are strongly advised to never take action on a letter received through other means without first verifying its authenticity through proper official channels.

“Please note that all official Letters of Award are only issued at the KeRRA offices. Always verify the authenticity of any communication through the proper channels before taking action,” KeRRA said.

Message to the Public

Members of the public have been urged to ignore any links or messages claiming to be from KeRRA and to avoid sharing personal details with unknown sources. The authority said it has already reported the contacts circulating the false information to the relevant authorities.

KeRRA advised anyone seeking clarification or verification regarding recruitment to contact the authority directly through its official telephone line, email address, or the dedicated recruitment enquiries email.
