The government-owned electricity distributor, Kenya Power, has announced planned power outages in parts of Kajiado and Kakamega counties on Sunday, October 26, 2025. The move comes as the rainy season continues to affect several regions, necessitating urgent maintenance and repairs to ensure a stable electricity supply.

Kenya Power conducts maintenance work throughout the year, not only during the rains, to keep the electricity network reliable.

In Kajiado County, residents of Kitengela will experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Areas affected include Exotic Peninah, Enkasiti, Maasai Ostrich Farm, Riverine, Global Village, Alexander Forbes, Lake Oil Kororompoi, Marvel Green, Succos, Kajiado East Technical, Archichem, Antilog, Jumbo Tank, Surge, Kreative Concrete, Moran Wires, Tuffoam, Zenith Steel, Imara Steel, Kenturain, Eden Park, Kitengela Medical, St. Liliana, and Kwa Chairman.

Other affected locations include Deliverance Road, Balozi Road, Baraka Road, Tropicana, Upper Valley, Chuna, Muigai, Ultimishi, Quickmart, Safaricom 1 and 2, Polica Sacco, Ola, New World, Korompoi, Maua Agritech, Desire Flora, Yash Poles, Hawa, Olturroto, Prayer Centre, Kisaju, Jamii Bora, Kenchic, Saris Quarry, Lucky Base, and adjacent customers.

In Kakamega County, Musaga residents will also face electricity interruptions from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Affected locations include Shikoti Mission, Bishop Etemesi, Elukho Village, Emajembe, and neighbouring customers.

Rainy season sparks repairs

With the rainy season starting, maintenance work is essential to prevent outages. Heavy rainfall causes flooding and damages electricity infrastructure in low-lying areas.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that rainfall is expected to increase in the coming days across the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the South-eastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley, and North-western Kenya. Isolated heavy downpours may trigger localised flooding, which could disrupt power distribution if repairs are not carried out promptly.

The electricity company urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to plan their activities in advance and take necessary precautions. Kenya Power also reminded the public to avoid touching damaged power lines and to report any electrical faults immediately.
