Kenya Forest officer survived for 30 minutes after Nandi chopper crash, family reveals
The family of the late Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officer who died in the Nandi plane crash, Amos Rotich, has confirmed that he survived for about 30 minutes after the grisly accident that claimed his life and five others, including Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno.
Speaking during the requiem mass for the victims of the Nandi plane crash at the African Gospel Church in Karen, Nairobi, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Amos Rotich’s family representative, Richard Chepkwony, has confirmed that the late Kenya Forest officer survived for thirty minutes after the deadly crash and could be heard asking of the whereabouts of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno, who died together with him in the crash.
“At the plane crash, Amos tried to get out of the scene, and he was the one who survived for at least 30 minutes. Upon interrogation, he only asked a question: Where is mheshimiwa? And when he was told that he had died, he also said that if mheshimiwa had died, there was no reason for him to live,” Chepkwony said.

The family has described the late Amos, who died at the age of 23, as the breadwinner, being the second born in a family of 6. The family has also said that the late Amos served the Kenya Forest for less than one and a half years.
The heroic Nurse at the crash
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has said that he reached out to Jeptoo Jacobeth, the young Mosop nurse who helped rescue victims of the helicopter crash that killed Johana Ng’eno, MP for Emurua Dikir, and five others.
In a statement shared by the outspoken lawmaker on Monday, March 2, 2026, he stated that he had spoken with Jacobeth to learn about her role in the rescue mission and acknowledged her bravery during the incident.

“I have just had a phone conversation with our heroine, Jeptoo Jacobeth, of the Saturday rescue mission of the ill-fated helicopter air crash that killed Hon. Ngeno Ngong, Johanna MP, Emurua Dikir constituency, and 5 others. She just cleared her studies at Kendu Bay Adventist School of Medical Sciences in February 2026 for the community health nurse course. She is waiting to do the Kenya Nursing Council qualifying exams scheduled for May 2026,” Cherargei noted.
