Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has appointed Moses Wekesa as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

According to a press release by the authority on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the appointment follows a rigorous, competitive interview process intended to find a leader capable of driving the authority’s ambitious growth agenda.

“The Board of Directors of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has appointed Moses Wekesa as the new Managing Director/CEO. This decision follows a rigorous, competitive interview process that identified Wekesa as the ideal leader to drive KAA’s ambitious agenda,” KAA stated.

Who is Wekesa?

The authority stated that Wekesa joins KAA from KenGen, where he served as the Business Development Director and was credited with spearheading the company’s core business growth.

KAA said Wekesa is an experienced infrastructure professional with a track record of managing high-impact projects across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

“He has managed high-impact projects across diverse economic sectors in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa. Previously, he served as Business Development Director at KenGen, where he spearheaded the company’s core business growth. His expertise extends to the wider infrastructure sector, equipping him to advance Kenya’s aviation infrastructure,” KAA said.

Academic background

Wekesa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) from the University of Nairobi (UON).

He also has a postgraduate qualification in Finance, Appraisal, and Project Planning from the University of Bradford (UK).

The authority further expressed its gratitude to Mohamud Gedi, the General Manager of Finance, who has been serving as the Acting Managing Director.

“The Board extends its best wishes to Mr. Wekesa in this new assignment and expresses its appreciation to KAA General Manager Finance, Dr. Mohamud Gedi, for his dedicated service as Acting Managing Director.”

“The board further acknowledges the smooth transition, particularly as KAA’s airport modernization initiatives accelerate to enhance the sector’s contribution to Kenya’s economy,” KAA said.
