Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) is anticipating up to Sh2.3 billion loss from Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) deadstock, authority’s commercial director George Walukana told National Assembly Health Committee on Tuesday.

But according to the committee chair Sabina Chege who visited Kemsa Embakasi warehouse, the loss due to deadstock might be higher.

She said Kemsa bought PPEs worth Sh7.2 billion but only managed to sell supplies worth Sh1 billion.

“Nobody wants to buy the remaining stock worth Sh6.2 billion because their price is higher than the current market price,” she said.
