Kenya Defence Forces said the joint training ended after weeks of preparation, coordination, and shared security responsibilities in Lamu County.

In a statement, KDF said the troops deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) marked the successful conclusion of three-week joint training programme at the Kenya Navy base in Manda Bay.

“Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed under the Operation Amani Boni (OAB) multi-agency framework recently marked the successful conclusion of a three-week joint training programme at Kenya Navy Base Manda Bay, Lamu County,” the statement reads.

The military described how the exercise brought together foreign and local troops to strengthen cooperation and improve security coordination in the region.

“The training, conducted in partnership with the United States and the United Kingdom, brought together personnel from the three forces in a coordinated effort aimed at strengthening operational cohesion, reinforcing collective readiness, and enhancing the effectiveness of security operations within the Boni Enclave and the wider coastal region,” KDF stated.

Officials explained that the exercises focused on planning, field operations, and sharing experience to help troops work together during real security situations.

“Throughout the training period, participants undertook joint planning and field exercises designed to improve interoperability across complex and dynamic operational environments. The engagements enabled troops to operate seamlessly alongside partner forces while sharing best practices and operational experiences, enhancing unity of effort and reinforcing the credibility of the multi-agency security framework supporting stability in Lamu County,” KDF wrote.

Commanders said the programme improved preparedness and showed the importance of strong partnerships when dealing with threats affecting communities in the coastal region.

“Speaking during the closing address, Lieutenant Colonel Jeremiah Leakono, of KDF, commended the participants for their professionalism and commitment. He noted that the training had enhanced operational readiness while reaffirming the value of trusted partnerships in delivering coordinated, lawful, and people-centred security outcomes under Operation Amani Boni,” the statement by KDf reads.

Foreign partners, inlcuding US and the UK, also acknowledged the cooperation and discipline witnessed during the training, saying it helps security teams respond to cross-border and emerging threats.

“The United States and United Kingdom delegations praised the high levels of discipline and cooperation demonstrated throughout the engagement, noting that joint training remains a critical enabler in addressing emerging and transnational security threats. They underscored the importance of continued joint engagements in strengthening interoperability and institutional trust,” the statement.

KDF said such joint programmes help protect residents, strengthen stability, and support long-term peace in Lamu and surrounding areas.

“The Kenya Defence Forces remain committed to working with trusted partners in reinforcing long-standing defence relationships. Such joint training initiatives continue to play a vital role in enhancing operational readiness, strengthening the legitimacy of security operations, and contributing to sustained stability and security in Lamu County and the wider region,” the statement reads.
