KDF gives update on Kenyan Quick Reaction Force serving in DR Congo
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has released an update on the ongoing operations of the Kenyan Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF) serving under the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
In a statement shared by KDF on its official X account on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, KDF said the Kenyan troops recently conducted a long-range patrol across several areas within North Kivu Province to assure residents of their safety.
“Troops from the Kenyan Quick Reaction Force (KENQRF), serving under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), recently conducted a long-range patrol across Mbau, Mandumbi, and Mangina areas within North Kivu Province. The operation aimed at reassuring local communities of their safety amid ongoing security stabilisation efforts,” the statement reads.

The patrol was conducted jointly with troops from the 33rd Rapid Reaction Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).
According to KDF, the collaboration between MONUSCO and FARDC remains key in ensuring the protection of civilians and restoring peace in areas previously affected by armed conflicts.
“The patrol was conducted jointly with troops from the 33rd Rapid Reaction Brigade (RR) of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). The joint operation underscored the continued collaboration between MONUSCO and FARDC in ensuring the protection of civilians, a core mandate of the UN mission in eastern DRC,” the statement adds.

KENQRF Contingent Commander Lieutenant Colonel Seda said the patrol was both operational and humanitarian. He explained that beyond maintaining a visible security presence, the mission also created room for direct engagement between peacekeepers, local leaders, and residents.
“Apart from maintaining a visible security presence in areas previously affected by armed group activity, the mission provided a platform for interaction between KENQRF leadership, local authorities, and residents,” Lt Col Seda said.
The discussions, he noted, focused on enhancing community resilience, addressing security concerns, and strengthening cooperation between civilians and peacekeepers.

Lt Col Seda reaffirmed KENQRF’s commitment to supporting MONUSCO’s broader peace mission. “We shall continue to work day and night to ensure that these areas are pacified, and this we shall achieve through the cooperation we have with the Local Security Forces as well as the citizenry,” he added.
KDF noted that the Quick Reaction Force remains focused on its mandate to protect civilians, strengthen partnerships with local authorities, and help restore lasting peace in eastern Congo.
