Kaya Tiwi too good for opponents in netball contests

National netball champions Kaya Tiwi were in a class of their own as they outclassed 44-15 Karuri Girls in the opening match of the 2019 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Games staged at the Kisumu National Polytechnic yesterday.
Ruth Mboya scored a whopping 32 points with attacker Mercy Atieno adding 12 as Kaya Tiwi led from first whistle to the last.
The coastal girls started strongly, winning the first quarter 11-03, second 13-04, third 12-03 and the fourth 8-5.
“They have tried their best being the first match and we hope to win every match and go all the way to the finals because we want to retain our trophy. Honestly, we do not expect much competition from any team because we have done very good preparations,” said a confident Wiyeta coach Maryanne Obonyo.
Elsewhere, hosts Nyakach Girls and Baba Dogo were unmatched as they recorded huge victories in their opening duels.
Baba Dogo humbled Volunteer Girls 60-3 as Nyakach thrashed Syumile 67-16. Bukokholo beat Cheptil 40-30 in a closely contested match.
Despite the loss, Cheptil coach Lydiah Ng’ososey remained upbeat, promising to bounce back to winning ways.
“It’s a setback but our target of winning the national title this year is still on course,” said Ng’ososey.
Kaya Tiwi will face fancied Baba Dogo in their second match today as hosts Nyakach take on Cheptil while Bukokholo meet Syumile.
