Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has vowed that the United Opposition will not allow the state to get away with the violence witnessed recently in Malava and Mbeere North constituencies during the by-elections.

Speaking during the funeral service of former minister and Democratic Party (DP) leader Joseph Konzollo Munyao in Makueni County on Thursday, December 2025, Kalonzo insisted that United Opposition candidates in the two constituencies did not lose but were rigged out by the state.

According to Kalonzo, it is demonstrably clear that the government was behind the violent scenes witnessed during the hotly contested by-elections, especially in Mbeere North and Malava. He further stated that they have evidence to support claims that the state was involved in the melee.

He further vowed that they will not allow goonism to be the order of the day during byelections and that they are making steps to stop this.

“We have to do something after this new concept of goonism. It’s demonstrably clear that they are the authors of the violence; we will not allow them to get away with it,” Kalonzo stated.

This comes after the recently contested by-elections, where violence erupted in the electoral areas, with Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa’s vehicle set on fire.

Move by United Opposition

The United Opposition has vowed to challenge the results in court, stating that they are preparing a watertight case to hold the state accountable and to contest the victories of Broad-Based Government candidates in the two areas, whose wins were by razor-thin margins.

Seth Panyako, who contested on the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) ticket, has defied the United Opposition and his party in their quest for justice, saying that he has decided to let the matter rest and will not take any legal action regarding the incidents.

They stated that they were conducting internal consultations before taking legal action following Seth Panyako’s loss but later affirmed that they would proceed after also consulting the candidate.

Orwoba’s advise

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, who has been critical of the state and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party since her ouster, not to let the matter rest.

She encouraged him to challenge the victory of his worthy opponent from UDA, Leonard Mathende, in court, warning that failure to do so in Mbeere North and Malava could set a dangerous precedent.

According to her, this could embolden perpetrators to commit violent acts during future by-elections, knowing that there will be no accountability.
