Kalonzo promises to push back on Ruto’s economic policies if elected president
Kalonzo Musyoka has hit out at President William Ruto’s economic policies, highlighting them as among the wrongs he will redress if elected president.
Speaking during the official launch of the People’s Fiscal Sovereignty Audit report on Monday, December 8, 2025, the presidential hopeful painted a grim picture of the country’s runaway corruption, abuses of human rights, and the capture of independent institutions—such as Parliament—by the executive.
Kalonzo also commented on the auction of state properties of national importance, urging the nation to reject the process, which he said is aimed at enriching only a few people.
“We have witnessed a dangerous trend of the rushed sale of national strategic infrastructure, such as the Kenya Pipeline and JKIA, which we stopped in court, and the attempted sale of Safaricom. These were all done without transparency and without public participation. They are unconstitutional and must stop,” he stated.

The former vice president further decried the unchecked borrowing by the government, which has pushed the ballooning public debt to KSh 12.5 trillion.
He argued that while the size of the debt is not the real challenge, it points to the regime’s sheer ineptitude and reckless borrowing brought about by misguided policies that are hurting families and the nation.
He also condemned the capture of independent institutions, highlighting how the executive had successfully taken control of the current legislature.
“We have also heard of the state capture of Parliament. Ruto gets out of the 13th Parliament everything he wants without even blinking,” he said.

In his quest to keep the government in check, Musyoka lauded several politicians who are leading the exposure of the government’s evils and misdeeds.
Change the nation
He urged leaders to take an active and collaborative approach in defending the country. “We can change this country if we are committed to doing it. If we rise to the occasion, we will be able to save this nation, and we will be with you,” he stated.
“Every leader at the national and county level has a duty to defend the Constitution. We have the likes of Ndindi Nyoro, who are doing a good job, and we must commend them,” he added.
He further read a riot act to state officials hellbent on flouting the rules of procurement and budgeting, saying that their days were numbered.
“Those who have made budgeting a personally enriching venture will be held to account in the coming administration,” his statement concluded.
