Few weeks after the suspension of all sporting activities in the country,  Enterprise Cup champions Kabras RFC have lined up various activities that will bring the team and the local community closer.

As the world celebrated the National Tree Planting Day on Wednesday, Kabras players helped plant 6,000 trees in Chirobani village within the expansive Kakamega Forest in Shinyalu constituency.

Led by assistant coach Edwin Achayo, more than 500 indigenous trees were planted as the club aims to incorporate other institutions like schools and churches in the programme.

“Kabras are concerned about the future generations and the long term well-being of the community,” said Achayo.

“This is part of the company’s environmental conservation campaign. Every month in collaboration with the community through schools and churches, we will plant more than 500 trees,” said Achayo.

He also added that they are also sensitising the community on the need to strictly follow the government regulations on curbing the spread of coronavirus.

He confessed the government-sanctioned sports break will greatly affect the team that had started their campaign strongly by winning all their first three matches convincingly.

“The break will definitely have adverse effects on the team but we are working with all the players closely through social media, sharing some programmes that will help them maintain their fitness.

“We believe this is something that has affected all the teams therefore there are no excuses. We just need to remain focused and work hard.”
