Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Buildup to June 25
As the anniversary of the June 25, 2024, protests approaches, various stakeholders are expected to issue a way forward on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
The Nairobi police bosses are expected to give direction following their initial meeting with the mothers and families of the victims of the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests.
This is after the bereaved families reiterated their plea for peace and cautioned against the infiltration of the protests by goons and politicians.
Political tensions are expected to flare on Tuesday, June 24, 2025; the buildup intensifies. A section of opposition leaders led by Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka had called for the day to be declared a public holiday.
However, government supporters are opposed to the idea.
The 2024 protest, led by Gen Z demonstrators, saw an unprecedented breach of Parliament and a fire set inside the premises.
Ojwang’s murder case
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Kiprotich Talaam and five other persons of interest in the murder of blogger and teacher Albert Omondi Ojwang are expected to take a plea before the Kibera High Court.

This is after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved murder charges against the six individuals.
The accused persons include Samson Kiprotich Talaam, James Mukhwana, Peter Kimani, John Ngige Gitau, Gin Ammitou Abwao, and Brian Mwaniki Njue.
Ruling on contempt of court
A three-judge bench is expected to deliver a ruling on contempt of court against President William Ruto for gazetting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.
The ruling is set to be delivered on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, starting at 2 pm, after the matter was adjourned on Monday, June 23, 2025.
In the Monday, June 23, 2025, hearing, Senior Counsel Paul Muite argued that the National Assembly cannot work independently and objectively under the current leadership of Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula.
“That National Assembly, chaired by that speaker when the National Assembly was verifying these commissioners, is not a National Assembly that can act independently and objectively,” Counsel Muite told the court.
“As currently constituted, the National Assembly is not in a position to conduct the vetting of the people whom it recommended,” Lawyer Muite told the court.
Parliament’s order of business
Various issues will be deliberated on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, in the National Assembly. According to the order paper published on the National Assembly website, issues set to be considered include

- Consideration of the fourth-generation revenue-sharing formula for counties
- The committee of the Whole House will deliberate on the Equalization Fund Appropriation Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 21 of 2025).
- Second reading of the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill NO. 4 OF 2025)
- Second reading of the Kenya Institute of Primate Research Bill (National Assembly Bill NO. 52 OF 2024)
Several motions are also lined up for deliberations in the National Assembly.
Weather forecast
Areas within the country are expected to receive rainfall on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, while others are expected to experience extreme cold conditions.
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD), in an advisory on Monday, June 23, 2025, predicted heavy rainfall in the Central Highlands (Nairobi included), Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, and parts of Western Kenya. Some areas could receive up to 120 mm of rain within the week.
“Rainfall is likely over Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, (and Western Kenya,” the department posted on X.
Cold and cloudy in parts of the Highlands (E & W), SE Lowlands and Rift Valley,” KMD added, urging Kenyans to remain vigilant and plan.
Power outage
Kenya Power issued a notice announcing scheduled power interruptions across four counties on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
In a statement on Monday, June 23,2025, the company cited routine maintenance as the reason for the outages, which are expected to affect specific regions in Machakos, Homa Bay, Tharaka Nithi, and Kwale counties.
In the Nairobi region, parts of Machakos County will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Areas affected include Kilimambogo, Donyo Sabuk Market, Kenya Wildlife Service facilities, the KPLC Repeater Station at Summit, St. Damiano, Kantara, Nzambani, and Kyeleni.
Donyo Sabuk Resort, Kitini, Delmonte Workshop, Kwetu Farm, Uamani Village, Kwa Mwaura Market, Kwa Mulinga, Kitambasye, Kayatta, Ngunga, and parts of Ngoliba Market, along with nearby customers, will also be affected.
In the South Nyanza region, Rusinga Island in Homa Bay County will experience a power outage between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The affected areas include Waware, Nyamuga, Wanyama, Kaswanga, Litare, Luore, Tom Mboya Mausoleum, Sienga, and surrounding regions.
Additionally, the Asumbi area in Homa Bay will also have an outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting Rabuor Masawa, Arujo, Maguti, Ogandi, Wiga, parts of Rodi, Imbo, Rangwe, Oluso, Sinogo, Asumbi Complex, Koyoo, Namba, Nyawita, Ojinyo, Omoya, Ndiru, Ohero, Masakla, and Obuya Dispensary.
Others areas have also been listed in the Kenya Power notice.
Ruto expected at Osaka Expo
President William Ruto is expected to grace the 2025 Osaka Expo on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
