It’s just a flu wave, Health CS allays fears of Covid-19 return
The government has allayed fears the country was facing a resurgence of the Covid-19.
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha (pictured) instead said what the country was experiencing was a flu outbreak.
She said the flu-like symptoms witnessed in the recent past were due to the cold season and not coronavirus.
“From our surveillance, we do not have an upsurge of Covid yet that we can report to the country and tell them to take corrective action,” she said at Afya House on Monday morning.
In a spot-check across a number of public establishments including five star hotels, eateries and other open air places such as markets and bus terminus, People Daily found out that most of the people are less bothered about the news of the Covid-19.
Global concern
“What we know is that Covid-19 was declared not an emergency of global concern currently by the World Health Organisation. We also heard the Ministry of Health reiterate this recently, and we have not seen people sick with the disease,” a Nairobi resident who did not want to be identified for his own reasons, said.
On May 5, the WHO ended the Public Health Emergency of International Concern that was Covid three years ago when it became a global threat.
