Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata is the most preferred gubernatorial candidate by the residents, according to the recent poll conducted by TIFA.

Kang’ata whose popularity has risen to 44 per cent is closely followed by former Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau with 32 per cent.

Kang’ata has been crisscrossing the county selling his agenda to the residents a strategy that has seemingly increased his popularity.

Vying on the UDA party ticket, the senator has been exuding confidence in beating his opponents in the coming election.

“UDA is the most popular party and it has better policies which shall help deliver services to the people,” he has always insisted in his campaigns.

On the other hand, Kamau who was the first to launch his gubernatorial bid mid-last year has been using his grassroots troops to campaign for him.

Though he is yet to declare the party of his choice, he has also maintained that he will carry the day, claiming that he is the senior-most and most experienced politician among his opponents.

“I will soon be announcing the party which I shall use to vie for the seat but I’m not ready to go for nominations,” he previously said.

Former water PS Joseph Wairagu who rebranded to Wairagu wa Maai took the third position in the poll with 7 per cent of the residents declaring their support for him.

Wairagu has revealed he shall be launching his gubernatorial bid coming Saturday under Democratic Party.

He said the party is strong as it has withstood several political storms and that it has better leadership principles.

“I will be launching my bid on Saturday after which I will also hit the ground and conduct my campaigns,” he said.

Irungu Nyakera, took the fourth position with three per cent according to the TIFA polls.

Other candidates shared three per cent.

Notably, 18 per cent of the residents were undecided on the candidate they would choose while two per cent did not have any preferred candidates.

Conspicuously missing in the survey, however, is Wanjiru Chege who had also declared her interest in the seat.
