Iranian Embassy in Nairobi slams cowardly US-Israel aggression, vows self-defence
By Kenneth Mwenda, February 28, 2026The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nairobi has issued a strong press release condemning the military strikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.
The statement, released on Saturday, February 28, 2026, describes the attacks as a “brazen military aggression” that targeted defensive infrastructure and non-military facilities in several Iranian cities. It calls the action a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against a state’s territorial integrity or political independence.
The embassy stresses that this assault threatens regional and international peace and security. Iran’s diplomats in Nairobi point out the timing: the strikes came while Iran engaged in diplomatic talks with the United States in good faith.
They accuse the US of betrayal. The release states:
“This cowardly attack occurred precisely at a time when the Islamic Republic of Iran was actively and with a good faith engaged in a diplomatic process with the United States, a process which was betrayed by a cowardly attack again, so that everyone would realise the evil nature of the United States and its unfaithful child, the Zionist regime of Israel.”
The embassy asserts Iran’s right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. It declares:
“The Armed Forces of the I.R. of Iran will employ all necessary capabilities and resources to confront these criminal acts of aggression and to repel the hostile actions of the enemy.”
It highlights the date’s significance, on the threshold of Nowruz and during Ramadan, as evidence of the attackers’ “moral bankruptcy.”
The statement praises the Iranian people:
“The noble and resilient people of Iran, who have never yielded to foreign domination throughout history, will stand united in defense of their homeland. The response of the Iranian nation to these aggressors will be firm, decisive, and regretful.”

Embassy demands urgent UN action
The embassy urges immediate international action. It calls on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency session and take binding steps to stop the aggression. It also appeals to the UN Secretary-General to uphold the Charter.
Further, it asks all UN member states, especially those in the region, the Islamic world, the Non-Aligned Movement, and governments committed to peace, to condemn the attack and take collective measures.
The release warns of broader consequences:
“This imposed war is a testament to the fact that if the aggression against Iran is met with a firm response from the international community, it will mark the beginning of the end of all international institutions and the rule of law.”
It ends by reaffirming the determination of Iran’s armed forces:
“The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, inspired by the heroic legacy of this ancient land and relying on trust in Almighty God, will defend the dignity and security of the Iranian nation with determination and all their might.”
