Inside Ruto’s meeting with West Pokot leaders at Eldoret State Lodge
President William Ruto on Tuesday hosted leaders from West Pokot County at the Eldoret State Lodge as part of renewed efforts to promote unity and unlock long-delayed development in the region.
According to the statement shared by the President on his X account on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the meeting brought together elected leaders and local representatives from the county, which has for years struggled with poor infrastructure, limited access to electricity and water, and the effects of historical marginalisation.

Ruto said the government sees unity among leaders as a key step toward changing the region’s fortunes and improving the daily lives of residents. The President first reflected on the tone and outcome of the meeting, pointing to a shared commitment among West Pokot leaders to put aside differences and work together for the common good of the county.
“Impressed by the unity of leaders from West Pokot county who have agreed to work together for the benefit of the region whose development has lagged due to marginalisation,” he stated.

Cooperation among leaders
Ruto then linked the leaders’ show of unity to specific development priorities the national government is keen to advance in the county. He said cooperation among leaders would help speed up long-promised projects aimed at opening up the region and easing the burden on households.

“This teamwork will accelerate the transformation of West Pokot through modernisation of its roads, increased electricity connectivity and enhanced water supplies to households,” the statement reads
Ruto said he is making regional development and reduction of marginalisation a key pillar of his administration, frequently meeting delegations from different parts of the country to discuss local challenges.
