I’m coming for you, Sakaja warns school land grabbers
By Alvin.Mwangi, July 7, 2023Nairob Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has put land grabbers on notice.
Sakaja, who was speaking at the launch of the second phase of the Executive Scholarships and Ward Bursaries, vowed to reclaim all public land that has been grabbed by private developers in the capital.
“Our kids should be taught in a peaceful environment without any disturbance.
All those who have stolen land meant for public schools I am personally coming for them. We will not have any negotiations. Public land should remain as public land. Those with an appetite for land belonging to schools should just think of something else,”Sakaja (pictured) said.
The county government is in the process of issuing title deeds to all public schools in Nairobi.
Among the 39 schools that have received the deeds are Ngei Primary, Wango Primary, Juja Road Primary School, Mukuru Kwa Njenga Primary, Joseph Apudo Primary, Mukuru Kayaba Primary School Baba Dogo Primary, Bahati Primary School, Garden Estate Primary, High Ridge Primary, Kahawa West Primary school, Karen C Primary, Kibera Primary, Kibora primary, Kirigu Primary, Mathare 4A Primary and Zawadi primary.
The governor reiterated the need to protect schools’ property for posterity.
“In many of our estates, there is no green space. We must maintain those green spaces that we have in schools.”
The governor said that the scholarship will benefit about 30,000 pupils in public pre-primary schools, where each will be allocated Sh3,200.
“These funds will, therefore, go a long way in setting the standards and improving the physical facilities of our schools, ensuring a conducive environment and greater access to quality education in our public ECDE Centres,” he said.
