The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued fresh guidance to Kenyans on where and how to register as voters, while also explaining areas where the ongoing exercise will not take place.

In a statement shared on X on Thursday, April 2, 2026, the commission pointed out key locations for registration, how to update voter details, and restrictions affecting certain electoral areas.

The electoral body explained the various locations where eligible Kenyans can present themselves to be registered during the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise across the country.

The Commission also gave direction to registered voters who may want to make changes to their details, including correcting personal information already captured in the system.

“To update particulars of your registration: Visit the Constituency where you are registered,” the statement reads.

For those planning to move their voting location to a different area, the Commission outlined a simple process that requires physical presence in the new constituency of choice.

“To Transfer your Registration Centre: Visit the Constituency where you wish to transfer,” the commission stated.

The IEBC further addressed concerns about whether the voter registration exercise is happening uniformly across the country, especially in areas preparing for by-elections or dealing with legal disputes.

“ECVR shall not be undertaken in electoral areas with scheduled by-elections (Porro Ward, Endo Ward and Emurua Dikirr Constituency) and ongoing election petitions (Malava Constituency and Mbeere North Constituency),” the commission stated.

In its communication, the Commission also pointed out the goal behind the exercise, pointing to the need to expand participation and ensure inclusivity in Kenya’s democratic processes.

“ECVR Theme: Deepening Democracy in Kenya Through Inclusive Voter Registration,” the statement reads.

The commission has said the clarification will help reduce confusion among voters and encourage more Kenyans, especially the youth, to take part in the registration process ahead of future elections.
