To prepare the country to undertake the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has initiated a training of its staff members to ensure that the exercise resumes on March 30, 2026.

Taking it to their social media handles on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the commission has confirmed that it has begun a two-day training for the voter registration assistants and constituency ICT clerks. The sessions will be such that the personnel will be completely prepared in terms of techno knowledge and the necessary operational skills needed to effectively deliver the voter registration process throughout the 30-day exercise period.

“The IEBC is conducting a two-day training of Voter Registration Assistants and Constituency ICT Clerks for the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise. The training is taking place ahead of the ECVR exercise, which will run from 30th March 2026, for a period of 30 days,” IEBC stated.

The training, as per the IEBC, is an aspect that enhances the integrity and effectiveness of the voter registration exercise. The Commission said that this training was to prepare voter registration assistants and constituency ICT clerks with the knowledge and skills they required to undertake voter registration successfully.

The ECVR exercise that will take one month to implement is the larger work of the Commission to revamp the voter register, increase accessibility and guarantee that eligible Kenyans have a chance to be registered as voters before the 2027 general elections. It is supposed to be carried out nationwide and against the unregistered citizens, especially the youth who have just reached the voting age.

After the present stage, the commission has demonstrated that the second step will be training of the voter registration clerks. Such clerks will be central in the execution of the registration process at the county assembly ward level, since the services will be taken closer to the grassroots.

The IEBC has placed a lot of focus on the preparedness and professionalism of its employees, with the observation that a quality workforce is central to entailing a credible and transparent voter registration exercise.

As the date of commissioning the process approaches, the commission is encouraging all the stakeholders, including the eligible voters, to be involved in the process in order to enhance the democratic system in Kenya.
