The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has concluded a two-day candidate registration process for the February 26, 2026, by-elections to be conducted in four electoral areas across the country.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Friday, January 23, 2026, the electoral body announced that the final day of registration covered Isiolo South Constituency and three County Assembly Wards in West Kabras, Evurore, and Muminji.

“Today marks the final day of the two-day candidate registration process for the #26thFeb By-elections to be conducted in Isiolo South Constituency, and County Assembly Ward (CAW) in West Kabras in Malava Constituency, Evurore and Muminji in Mbeere Constituency,” IEBC stated.\

Commissioner oversight

IEBC Commissioners observed and offered support to teams on the ground to ensure the registration process was seamless and efficient.

The commission emphasised that the oversight was aimed at maintaining the integrity and smooth running of the candidate registration exercise.

The IEBC further revealed that it is using the Candidates Registration Management System (CRMS), which automates the process for full compliance, accuracy, and instant ballot proof generation.

“The Candidates Registration Management System (CRMS) automates the process for full compliance, accuracy, and instant ballot proof generation, showing candidates how the ballot paper will appear. This tech-based solution streamlines registration and reduces errors,” the commission stated.

Campaign period

The electoral body confirmed that the official campaign period runs from January 22, 2026, to February 23, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

“The official campaign period runs from 22nd January 2026 to 23rd February 2026 between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm,” IEBC stated.

The commission urged candidates and voters to maintain peace during the campaign period and encouraged high voter turnout on election day.

“We urge candidates and voters to maintain peace during the campaign period and to turn up in large numbers to elect leaders of their choice through the secret ballot on #26thFebByElections,” the IEBC concluded.
