IEBC announces readiness to conduct Isiolo South by-election
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced its readiness to conduct a by-election for the Member of Parliament in Isiolo South constituency.
The by-election is set to be conducted on February 26, 2026, following the death of Isiolo South constituency MP Mohamed Tupi on November 12, 2026.
In a video and a statement shared on their X handle on Monday, February,16,2026, the IEBC, through Isiolo South Constituency returning officer Abdi Sheikh, confirmed that preparations in to conduct the mini polls were concluded. The constituency has over 22,000 registered voters spread across 61 polling stations.
The returning officer has confirmed that the polling stations will be opened at 6:00 am and will be expected to close at 5:00 pm. He has further called on the candidates and political parties to adhere to all the electoral rules and code of conduct.
“The by-election will be held on 26th February 2026. Isiolo South Constituency has 61 polling stations and 22,216 registered voters. All polling stations will open at 6 am and close at 5 pm. Candidates and political parties are urged to adhere to the electoral code of conduct during the election period,” Abdi said

Abdi has also called on the members of the public to remain turnout in large numbers to fulfil their constitutional mandate and urged them to ensure they remain calm and maintain peace throughout the voting process.
“Voters are encouraged to remain peaceful and turn out in large numbers to elect leaders of their choice. The IEBC remains open to engaging all relevant stakeholders to ensure the by-election is free, fair, transparent, and credible,” Abdi added.
Isiolo South seat declared vacant
The Isiolo South parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Tupi Bidu Mohamed, who died while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
In a message to the nation, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the passing of the first-term lawmaker on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, evening, describing it as a great loss to Parliament and the country.
“It is with profound deep sorrow that I inform you and the nation of the demise of our esteemed colleague, the Member for Isiolo South Constituency, the Tubi Bidu Mohamed, MP, who has left us this evening, Wednesday, November 12, 2025, while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital,” Wetang’ula stated.

Contest between UDA and Jubilee Parties
The much-anticipated by-election scheduled will undoubtedly be a hotly contested race between the UDA and Jubilee Parties.
This follows the clearance of Tubi Mohammed Tubi and Bina Mohammed Tupi, who are siblings and children of the Late Member of Parliament Mohammed Tubi, by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC, as the UDA candidate in the by-election, as well as clearance.
Tubi Mohammed Tubi will be vying on a UDA ticket while her sister Bina Tupi will be running on a Jubilee Party ticket.
