How chaos and political differences marred Ng’eno’s mourning in Emurua Dikirr
Mourning ceremonies for the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno were disrupted by chaos and political confrontations at his Mogondo village home in Narok County on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after rival groups clashed during a condolence gathering.
What began as a solemn occasion to honour the deceased legislator quickly descended into tension when mourners confronted a local activist over alleged inflammatory remarks made on social media.
Clash at the funeral
Tensions flared when Johana Kiprono, popularly known as Kamilan, was confronted by sections of mourners over posts he allegedly made following the helicopter crash that claimed Ng’eno’s life.
The activist, in a video that went viral on social media, had questioned the circumstances surrounding the crash and warned against the presence of members of certain communities at the funeral, remarks that many interpreted as divisive and ethnically charged.

Angry mourners turned on him, leading to physical altercations that left him injured. Police officers present at the scene were forced to fire shots in the air to disperse the crowd and prevent further violence.
Kamilan was later rushed to the hospital for treatment as calm was gradually restored.
Leaders condemn politics at funeral
Several political leaders who had gathered to condole with the bereaved family condemned the chaos and called for unity.
Oscar Sudi, the Kapseret MP, accused unnamed politicians of using young people to create division during a time of grief.
“Leo umetutumanishia hawa vijana waharibu mazishi, lakini mazishi itaendelea, Kenya itaendelea, na ujinga itakoma,” Sudi said.

Nominated Senator Joyce Korir cautioned leaders against exploiting the MP’s death for ethnic or political gain.
“Na ningependa kuwaonya viongozi ambao wanatembea na kutumia vijana kwa njia isiyo faa, kwamba kifo ya Ng’eno sio kifo cha kutumia kuleta siasa ya ukabila,” she said.
Similarly, Hillary Sigei, Senator for Bomet County, urged politicians to respect the grieving family and community.
“Nyinyi mtuachie shida yetu na ndugu yetu; tumlete tumlaze mahali pema peponi kwa amani na mapenzi kama jamii na serikali. Hiyo mambo ingine ya siasa usitumie kifo cha ndugu yetu Johana Ng’eno kupiga siasa, haswa hizo siasa zenu za kijinga. Hiyo hatuezi kubali,” he said.

The late Ng’eno was a prominent political figure in Emurua Dikirr, and his death in a helicopter crash had already shaken the region. The chaotic scenes at his rural home further deepened the emotional strain on family members and supporters.
Local elders and leaders later appealed for restraint, urging residents to allow the mourning process to proceed peacefully.
