Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) yesterday announced  the 2020/21  loan programmes for technical and vocational education.

The loans will cover First Year Kenyan students admitted to national polytechnics, technical training institutions (TTI) and vocational colleges.

Also eligible are students in second and subsequent years at national polytechnics, Technical and Vocational Education and Training colleges and TTIs.

The institutions must be under the Ministry of Education and registered with the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services and members of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions.

“The closing date for loan application is January 31, 2021,” said Helb in a public notice yesterday.

Technical college students have been advised to register through the Helb website and indicate the purpose of credit.

The students are required to print two copies of duly filled loan application forms, which should also be signed by relevant authorities.

One copy will then be presented to Huduma centres  across the country.

“Students must retain a copy of the duly filled loan application form. While filling, they should follow instructions at the beginning of the online application process including reading and undertaking the Helb financial literacy programme,” advised Helb.

For the Afya Elimu Fund, Helb said that first time and continuing needy students in the middle level medical colleges, including Kenya Medical Training College, Faith Based organisations and other accredited private institutions offering diploma and certificates in medical courses are eligible.

The closing date for this category is also on January 31, 2021.
