The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that rainfall across the country is expected to decrease in the coming days, bringing some relief to areas that have experienced persistent rains in recent weeks. However, the agency cautioned that some regions may still experience occasional showers and isolated heavy rainfall.

In a weather outlook shared on X on Monday, March 9, 2026, the meteorological department explained that the general rainfall pattern across Kenya will gradually weaken, though southern parts of the country could continue receiving rain from time to time.

“Weather forecast March 10 to 16, 2026 Rainfall Outlook. Rainfall is expected to reduce in spatial coverage and intensity across several parts of the country. However, occasional rainfall is likely to continue over several areas in the southern parts of the country,” the statement reads.

The department also warned that despite the expected overall reduction in rainfall, certain regions may still experience isolated heavy downpours that could affect daily activities and travel in some areas.

Isolated Heavy Rainfall. Despite the general reduction, isolated heavy rainfall events may still occur in parts of:

  • Western Kenya
  • Central Highlands (including Nairobi)
  • Lake Victoria Basin
  • Rift Valley
  • South-eastern Lowlands
  • South Coast

The weatherman further highlighted that temperature variations are expected across different regions of the country, with some areas likely to experience hotter daytime conditions.

“Temperature Outlook. Daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in several areas, including the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya,” the statement reads.

The department also noted that some regions, particularly in highland areas, could experience chilly nights as temperatures fall significantly during the forecast period.

“Night-time temperatures below 10°C are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the statement reads.

Weather experts have encouraged Kenyans to stay updated with official forecasts and plan their activities accordingly, especially in areas that may still experience heavy rainfall or significant temperature changes during the week.
