President William Ruto has today announced that Kenya will host the Global Centre for Adaptation (GCA) Africa headquarters in Nairobi.

Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Ruto stated that the move comes as an outcome of the Africa Climate Summit (ACS) held in the country.

The Global Centre for Adaptation is an international organization working as a solutions broker to accelerate action and support for adaptation solutions.

“I am delighted to announce that as an outcome of this summit today, Kenya will host the GCA Africa Headquarters here in Nairobi. It has taken tremendous courage, effort, and determination to leave behind us the old continent, that was historically profiled with intense negativity.

“The Africa whose people were neither to be seen nor heard has summoned the confidence and readiness to confront hard facts, engage truthfully, and forge a common position on critical issues
that projects a new, bold, and radically transformative voice into global discourse,” the president said.

In May this year, Ruto visited the floating headquarters of the GCA in Rotterdam to participate in a Strategic Dialogue on the Africa Climate Summit.

The latest development comes amidst the ongoing Africa Climate Summit.

A dozen of African Heads of State and vocal climate change activists are expected to attend the event meant to address Africa’s increasing exposure to climate change.

The event has been organized by the Kenyan government and the African Union.
