In a bid to curb rising insecurity and lawlessness in Gatundu North constituency, residents and local administrators have been challenged to take a front in facilitating the prevalence of peace and order in the villages.

As the locals continue to reel from the shock of the increased spate of murder cases, robbery, and high uptake of outlawed substances, newly deployed Deputy County Commissioner Erick Wamurevu insisted on the need for locals to join hands and support the security team in taming societal vices.

Commitment to eliminate crime

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Gakoe village, Wamurevu upheld that the government is committed to eliminating crimes to facilitate social-economic development.

Wamurevu revealed that local authorities have already seized 10 bags of bhang that were in transit for sale in the constituency.

“We need to applaud the good job that our local authorities are doing to curb crimes. The seizure of Bhang is testament to the fact that we are not sleeping to not only root out crimes but also ensure our people live peacefully,” Wamurevu said.

He, at the same time, called on locals to adopt their power transformers to protect them from vandalism and possible theft by criminals, who have as a result been causing darkness in the villages.

His sentiments were echoed by Joseph Indeke, the area DCIO, who said that sleuths are doing everything possible to stem crimes in the constituency.

Indeke called on parents to talk to their children to stop the uptake of outlawed substances, which he blamed for the increased crimes in the area.

Community support

On his part, area Member of Parliament (MP) Elijah Njoroge Kururia, who decried the heightened insecurity, called on locals to support the government’s efforts to restore order in the constituency.

He revealed that the constituency will undergo a security team overhaul in a bid to help stop crimes.

The MP warned that drug peddlers, thieves, and murderers will have no escape route after a court is established in the constituency.

The criminals, he said, will be receiving prompt justice, unlike in the past, as their prosecution will be happening within hours.

“Police will now be arresting criminals in the morning, and before midday, justice will have been done to them as most of them will have been jailed. We will not allow thugs and criminals to interfere with our peace in this constituency,” Kururia said.

The lawmaker urged the youth to refrain from crimes and instead endeavour to better their lives by engaging in meaningful socio-economic activities.
