Gas dealers donation to fire tragedy victims
Victims of the Embakasi gas explosion are set to benefit from a Sh400,000 cash donation from the Independent Gas Dealers Association of Kenya.
While condoling with families affected by the tragedy, the association yesterday reaffirmed its commitment to safety and compliance to regulatory frameworks.
Chairperson of the organisation Yusuf Adan yesterday said they are supporting efforts by the government to regulate the industry in order to drive out traders not fit to operate gas business in the country.
“We are supporting the government in its bid to ensure that companies dealing in gas are regulated and abide by the laws and regulations in the energy sector,” said Adan.
The cash donation has since been handed over to Red Cross, and will be complemented by another 1.5 million shillings donation, to cater for food and basic amenities, as pledged by the Independent gas dealers.
Red Cross Kenya Programmes Deputy Secretary General Joel Mbalu (above) welcomed the donation, noting that it will boost the efforts to secure food and other items such as blankets to the Embakasi gas explosion victims who are still at the hospital and those left homeless by the tragedy.
“This humanitarian assistance is of huge relief and timely because it is going to go a long way in assisting victims who were affected during the Embakasi gas explosion incident,” said Mbalu. This came even as the Nairobi County allayed fears of another threat at the scene of the Embakasi gas explosion following a suspected gas leak Monday morning.
