Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared that his leadership, once he ascends to the presidency, will be etched in the memories of Kenyans for over 30 years, emphasising the profound and lasting impact he intends to make on the nation’s future.

Speaking passionately during a church service in Murang’a County on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Gachagua expressed unwavering confidence that the leadership he will provide will not only transform the country but also set a benchmark for generations to come.

He asserted that Kenyans, weary of empty promises and ineffective governance, are yearning for a leader whose legacy will extend well beyond the confines of his term, a leader whose policies and decisions will resonate through time.

“Kenya will remember the leadership I will bring for over thirty years and beyond because the changes we will bring are not temporary but foundational. I am telling you, and you will come to see it yourselves,” Gachagua remarked to a cheering crowd.

The former Mathira Member of Parliament also highlighted that his vision entails sustainable development, economic empowerment, and uniting the country under a common goal, which he believes will guarantee a prosperous future for all Kenyans.

Gachagua added that the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the current administration, particularly regarding leadership and governance, makes his mission even more crucial, promising that defeating the incumbent will be a walk in the park due to the collective desire for change.

With his assured appeal across Mount Kenya and beyond, Gachagua vowed to deliver a presidency marked by integrity, professionalism, and steadfast dedication to the Kenyan people, confident that his name will be proudly remembered long after his time in office has ended.

“Kenyans are not buying empty promises anymore — they want real leadership. With the kind of support I am seeing across Mount Kenya and beyond, defeating the current regime will be a walk in the park. I want to lead with purpose, and I believe this country will remember my leadership for decades to come.”

Disrespecting Mt Kenya community

During the service, Gachagua also criticised President William Ruto for demeaning the Mt Kenya community by sending food handouts instead of addressing the real agricultural needs of the people.

He lamented that the current administration has resorted to offering beans and cash, yet what farmers are asking for is fertiliser so that they can plant their own crops and secure meaningful harvests, noting that such actions reveal a deep misunderstanding of the community’s priorities.

“He has deeply insulted us because he is sending money and beans here, yet what we need is fertiliser so that we can plant our own beans and harvest,” Gachagua said as he addressed the congregation.

He went further to criticise lawmakers who have aligned themselves with such practices, saying that the president is taking the people of the region for granted by using rice and token money to sway public opinion, insisting that this approach shows how lowly the community is being regarded.

“Now these MPs are moving around distributing rice here, and that is an insult to this community. He sees us as worthless people, people who can be lied to with rice while women are placed under tents and then handed five hundred shillings in the evening. We see that as utter disrespect,” he stated.

Referring to a newspaper headline that suggested President Ruto had placed his camp under siege, Gachagua clarified that the so-called political camp belongs to the community and not to him as an individual.

“I have seen the newspaper today claiming that Ruto has placed Gachagua’s camp under siege. That is not my camp, it is the community,” he explained.

He also took the opportunity to accuse President Ruto of long-standing betrayal, saying he plotted against Mt Kenya in 2007, rose to power through deceit, and later sidelined key regional leaders, including himself, Mithika Linturi, and Justin Muturi.

“This man does not mean well for us. In 2007, he had a plan to finish us, then he joined hands with Uhuru, and we elected him as Deputy President, then he misled us again using religion, and we voted for him as President. He started with all the strong leaders from Mt Kenya like me; then he went to Meru and pushed out Mithika Linturi, and later to Embu, where he removed Justin Muturi,” he added.

He concluded by warning the people not to allow the same mistake to happen again, saying, “If he can treat us this way before 2027, what will happen if he gets another term? We cannot allow him.”
