Former State House Comptroller Abraham Kiptanui is dead, his family has announced.

Kiptanui who was a powerful ally to former President Daniel Moi served in his regime until he retired in 1996.

The family said Kiptanui breathed his last Sunday morning after a long illness. He died while with his family at the Nairobi Hospital.
