Family buries kin who died in Saudi Arabia

Rose Atieno Odhiambo, a Kenyan who died mysteriously in Saudi Arabia, was yesterday buried at her home in Kisauni sub-county Mombasa.
Odhiambo, 33, left Kenya two months ago to work as a house help at Dammam City in Saudi Arabia, but her body was flown back to Kenya for burial barely three months later.
Her husband Abdulaziz Juma has asked the government to investigate the circumstances leading to his wife’s death at a hospital in the gulf country. Juma claims his wife’s body had bruises on the head and stitches on the back and neck, suggesting she could have been attacked.
“We have been married for 16 years, but not a single day did my wife suffer epilepsy. They told us that my wife collapsed and was rushed to hospital, but we are not satisfied with the reports because my wife has never had any medical condition,” Juma said.
Family members said they were notified last week that their kin was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after collapsing during work. They were later told that she had died.
Odhiambo was yesterday buried at Mwandoni cemetery shortly after prayers at the Swafaa mosque.
Her brother Vincent Odongo claimed she had complained that her employer was mistreating her but the Kenyan embassy did not take any action. He said her death could have been avoided had the embassy responded with speed.
