Duale speaks after Ruto named second batch of cabinet nominees
Environment Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Aden Duale spoke after President William Ruto nominated 10 more people to serve in his broad-based government on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.
In a statement on X, Duale noted that the newly nominated cabinet members represented the face of the country and reflected the diversity in the nation.
“I wish to thank The President for constituting a cabinet that reflects the national unity of our country. There is no doubt that Kenya is set to have in the Cabinet men and women who reflect the face and diversity of our people,” Duale said.
As parliament reconvened after a brief recess, the vetting of the proposed cabinet secretaries is set to be top in the in-tray that awaits the members of the committee on appointments.
Duale urged that it was the time to rise above the differences that divide us and embrace unity.
“The proposed cabinet which now awaits vetting and approval by the National Assembly is a testament that as a country we can rise above our differences and unite on the national values that bind us together as Kenyans,” he said.
Duale calls for unity
He lauded Ruto for reaching out across political differences and beginning a process of forming a government of national unity, adding that the nation has chosen peace and stability.
“The constitution of a government of National Unity is a defining moment for this country, where there was disagreement, the country has chosen peace, where there was discord, unity and where there was political upheaval, stability,” Duale noted.
Duale observed that he was proud of the president’s gesture, noting his willingness to serve together with members of across the political divide.
“For this, I am a proud Kenyan and if approved by the National Assembly, I look forward to working with my brothers from across the political divide, to ensure that we serve the People of Kenya effectively,” Duale added.
On July 24, 2024, Ruto added a list of ten nominated cabinet secretaries to the 11 earlier announced, bringing on board four members of the ODM party.
The leaders are Opiyo Wandayi who has been nominated as the cabinet secretary of Energy and Petroleum, Hassan Joho as CS of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya CS of Co-operatives and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development and John Mbadi as the CS Treasury and National planning.
