Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) seek to continue their victorious streak on the road since 2016, eyeing a fourth straight Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (KECOSO) overall title when the 2019 games take place in Kisii on August 10-17.

The dockers’ team emerged overall champions with 35 gold medal, 24 silver and 20 bronze after collect a total of 139 points from winning trophies in athletics, basketball (women), darts, golf, netball, pool, and also swimming for people living with disabilities.

“Our mission is still the same, to retain our overall Mawasiliano Shield title. We are well prepared and we expect yet again to dominate in all disciplines and reclaim those that we didn’t win last year,” KPA Sports Officer Lenox Pande told People Sport.

Despite winning the overall Mawasiliano Shield title, KPA were dethroned from their football and basketball (men) titles they had won in 2017 in Kisumu, finishing third last year and Pande says, they are seeking to reclaim their lost titles this year but was quick to admit that, it will not be easy, because other teams have also prepared for the same.

“It is our desire to reclaim our football and basketball men’s titles but it is all about preparations. We have a good team this year but this is a competition and all teams have equal chances to win, so whoever will be the best in the competition will win it,” he said.

To underline their undying desire to retain their overall title, the Coast-based state corporation have already kicked off their title defence positively, having claimed the 2019 golf title held in Kisii last weekend.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) collected two gold medals, seven silver and eight bronze, in athletics, and also being runners-up in swimming and darts but were no match to KPA as they came a distant second with 107 points but are, however expected to improve on their performance this year to give KPA a befitting competition.

Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) who also gave their best shot in last year’s competition, will be expected to retain their football, scrabble, volleyball and basketball (men) titles they won last year and perhaps take part in this year’s athletics championship, a sport they did not participate in and in the process lowered their points tally that saw them finish third overall with 99 points.

PCK will be strongly expected to deny KPA another opportunity to win this year’s football title.

PCK then clinched volleyball men’s title, KPA became second followed by KCAA. KAA was fourth. Most Valuable Player was Nickson Kipkogei of PCK, Best Libero Sam Juma of KPA, Best setter Kennedy Mugo of KCAA and Best Attacker Robert Ngila of KAA. 

PCK claimed their third title, beating Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) 61-50 to lift basketball men before wrapping up the show with women’s scrabble title.
