Detectives recover contraband goods in Murang’a after tenant fails to pay rent, disappears
Police officers from Kenol Police Station have recovered a cache of contraband goods hidden in a residential building in the Kimorori area of Murang’a South Sub-County.
In a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the find comes after a house agent reported unusual activity at the property rented by one person of interest, who had failed to pay rent for two months and mysteriously disappeared.

Suspicious house
Concerned about the locked house, the agent alerted the area sub-chief, who, with a furtive glance through a window, noticed something suspicious; evidence suggesting the premises were being used for the production and packaging of illicit liquor. Responding swiftly, officers stormed the location, uncovering an array of illicit items.
”The haul included: 6 cartons of Supa Vodka containing 250ml bottles of Smart Vodka, 24 cartons of Trace Vodka with the same deceitful contents, 3 cartons of Lyniber Vodka, 109 cartons of Crywan Vodka disguised as Kingston Vodka, cartons of J-Movers and Rangers Vodka,” the statement reads inpart.
The DCI further confirmed that assorted liquids suspected to be used for brewing illicit liquor, 5 sacks filled with various liquor bottle tops from different brands, and 15 bags overflowing with empty bottles primed for repackaging were also recovered.

More items recovered
According to the detectives, 1 carton of UDV Vodka, various drums and jerrycans believed to have been used for transporting ethanol, two alcohol content thermometers, and a stash of 1,777 counterfeit KRA stickers, among other items, were also recovered.
It was established that the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers on both the packages and those yet to be used were fake. All the recovered items are currently being held as exhibits at Kenol Police Station as authorities continue the manhunt for the person of interest who remains at large.
