The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of a person of interest and the recovery of a firearm during an intelligence-led operation in Utawala, Nairobi County.

Arrest

According to the DCI, detectives from Embakasi Sub-County led the operation that resulted in the arrest of the man. The raid was carried out at a residence located within Kelvin Heights, Utawala.

The arrest was linked to intelligence reports pointing officers to the location, prompting the carefully planned raid.”Acting on intelligence reports, the officers conducted a raid,” read the statement.

Recoveries

In their update, the DCI disclosed that a Glock pistol loaded with seventeen rounds of ammunition was seized during the operation. The firearm had been concealed inside a refrigerator at the residence.

“During the operation, a Glock pistol loaded with seventeen rounds of ammunition was recovered. The firearm had been concealed inside a refrigerator,” the agency said.

Legal process underway

The investigative agency confirmed that the crime scene was processed and all exhibits secured to aid in the judicial process. The person of interest was immediately taken into custody.

“The scene was processed, exhibits secured, and the suspect placed in custody pending arraignment,” the DCI concluded.

Earlier, the DCI apprehended six persons of interest linked to gang-related incidents in Kajiado County.

In a statement on Friday, September 5, 2025, the DCI said five suspects were intercepted in Kagio, Kirinyaga, with surveillance tools including walkie-talkies, SIM cards, phones, spotlights, and surgical gloves. Another person of interest was arrested in Kiserian, where officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, teargas canister, a walkie-talkie, and housebreaking tools.

“The items recovered indicate that these persons of interest were on reconnaissance missions to facilitate criminal activity,” the statement read.

The DCI noted the arrests are part of wider operations to dismantle criminal networks, restore peace, and safeguard residents, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
