Similar crackdown

This crackdown follows a separate operation just a day earlier, in which the DCI arrested eight individuals believed to be part of a violent robbery syndicate terrorising businesses across the country.

In a statement on September 2, 2025, the DCI revealed that the eight persons of interest were apprehended in Mtito Andei, Makueni County.

“A well-coordinated operation by the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), supported by the DCI Headquarters Operations Team, has led to the arrest of eight persons of interest in Mtito Andei, Makueni County,” the statement reads in part.

Additionally, the agency disclosed that the gang had been under investigation for months, being linked to a series of violent robberies and burglaries in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa.

“For months, the gang had been on detectives’ radar, linked to a string of violent attacks and burglaries in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa. Their operations left behind a trail of loss and fear, with businesses suffering significant financial damage,” DCI added.
