The Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) has welcomed President William Ruto’s decision to dissolve almost his entire cabinet.

In a letter dated Thursday, July 11, 2024, the trade union stated that the cabinet dissolution is a momentous step in rebuilding and strengthening the country amid crisis.

Commending Ruto for making a bold move, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli stated that his action is a modern approach to addressing the grievances and aspirations of the Kenyan people.

“Today’s decision by President William Ruto to dissolve the Cabinet marks a significant step towards this much-needed rebirth. The President has our full support as workers as he takes this momentous step to rebuild and strengthen our beloved country,” Atwoli stated.

“Kenya stands at a pivotal moment in its history, a moment that calls for profound transformation and renewal. This bold and decisive action is a modern approach to addressing the grievances and aspirations of the Kenyan people.”

Atwoli further advised the president to have a team that will prioritize the needs of Kenyans and defend the policies of the government in his next cabinet adding that the cabinet should have people who answer calls from the public for accountability purposes and consultations.

“It is within time for the President to have a team that not only defends the policies of the government but also effectively articulates the needs and priorities of the nation,” he stated.

“The challenges we face require a Cabinet composed of competent and experienced Kenyans who are committed to serving the interests of all citizens and also answer telephone calls from members of the public for accountability purposes and consultations and notably what Kenya requires are Servants of the People and not Bosses full of Ego and hungry for Power.”

According to the COTU boss, the new cabinet should be a reflection of national unity and inclusivity.

“As the President embarks on the process of forming a new cabinet, we urge him to prioritize national unity and inclusivity. The new Cabinet should reflect the diverse fabric of our society, ensuring that it must be all-inclusive and broadly representative,” Atwoli said.

He added that the country will be able to overcome the current crisis with a renewed and united cabinet.

“We are confident that with a renewed and united Cabinet, our nation can overcome the current challenges and move towards a future of prosperity and justice for all,” Atwoli said.
