The gunmen who shot and killed a police officer on Tuesday night in Nairobi’s Kayole area have been identified.

A team of detectives from DCI is already pursuing the gang said to be usually operating on a motorcycle.

Constable David Mayaka attached to Makadara DCI was driving home with his wife Hellen Kemunto when their vehicle got a puncture and they stopped to fix it at around 10pm.

The three robbers confronted them and robbed the wife of a phone before shooting Mayaka in the stomach and the woman on the left thigh.

Officers who visited the scene collected spent cartridges which are being subjected to ballistic analysis.

“We have analysed the recovered spent cartridges and CCTV footage and have a clue who the gunmen are. It is now a matter of when, not if,” a senior detective told People Daily.

“At the scene, the officers recovered three spent cartridges of 9mm caliber and a bullet head,” he added.

The incident which was captured by a CCTV camera showed the thugs arriving in two motorcycles whose registration plates were concealed.
