Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has listed the reasons he believes will make it easy for President William Ruto to win a second term in office.

The senator argues that unlike previous presidents, Ruto has a track record of what he has achieved, and this will easily earn him a favour from the electorate.

“As I was driving through Ngong Road, I want Willies Ochieng (member of the debate panel) to go there and stop the young men who are going to work at Talanta Hela, to stop them and tell them that this government is not working.

“Over the weekend, I was in my hometown of Kapsabet, where over 200 units of the Affordable Housing programme is ongoing and it is happening across the country. You should go there and tell the workers that the government is not working.

“He should go and tell the people at Chepsonoi Market that it is almost 80% complete and even at Park Road Affordable Housing, and tell the people working there that the government is not working,” Cherargei said during a morning talk with a local TV station on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

He also cited the number of teachers he claims have been employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) as another reason why Ruto’s government is working.

“The reason William Ruto will get the second term is because he has a track record. Talking about TSC, this is the only government that has hired 70,000 teachers since independence. 46,000 teachers under the JSS programme were confirmed under permanent and pensionable terms.

“This government is promoting equitable access to opportunities,” he added.

Cherargei also castigated the formation of parties that are tribal in nature.

“As a country, we need to move away from tribal politics, and you have heard the president arguing so much about a national political party that has national ideals.

“Most of these political parties are parties that do not have national values,” he concluded.
