Cherargei: No president has performed better than Ruto in 60 years
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has stated that President William Ruto has worked far better than previous Heads of State.
At a burial in Nandi County on September 12, 2025, the Senator declared that “There is no president that has performed better than Ruto for the past 60 years of the republic of this country.”
A staunch United Democratic Alliance (UDA) supporter, Cherargei credited Ruto with significant achievements during his three-year tenure.
“If you take a look at what President Ruto has done for the past 3 years, it adds up to 80 per cent plus, compared to other presidents,” he said.
The senator expressed confidence in Ruto’s leadership, stating, “The president has done a good job, and we do not have much to say; we will give him tutam and support him, and he will deliver for our country.”
Support for 2027 elections
Cherargei dismissed opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 polls, asserting, “So we will support him and let those in the opposition do your work, but the next polls, mambo yameivana, sisi tushapanga,” signalling certainty in Ruto’s re-election.
He highlighted the president’s role in promoting national cohesion, noting, “You have seen him bring the country together; like today, he was with Murang’a leaders. We thank him for bringing Kenyans together in a peaceful way and for development.”
On local politics, Cherargei addressed the upcoming by-election in Chemulu Kapng’etuny ward, assuring, “We, as the UDA, will ensure that the polls will be conducted fairly. There is no preferred candidate; we will do credible, verifiable nominations for our candidates in the rest of the country for the quality.”

Achievements
Cherargei highlighted several of Ruto’s developmental projects, referencing a May 15, 2025, TV interview. He cited initiatives like the Affordable Housing programme, with over 200 units under construction in Kapsabet, Chepsonoi Market at 80 per cent completion, and Park Road housing developments.
He challenged critics, saying, “Tell them that this government is not working,” while also pointing to the Teachers Service Commission’s hiring of 70,000 teachers since independence, including 46,000 under the Junior Secondary School programme on permanent terms, as evidence of equitable opportunities.
The senator also lauded Ruto’s reconciliation initiatives, especially following former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s August 1, 2025, State House visit for a DRC peace summit. Cherargei stated on July 2, 2025, “The presence of H.E. Uhuru at State House yesterday with President Ruto has made most tribalists and bigots mad because they don’t want an inclusive, united & cohesive Kenya.”
